My suggestion is to eliminate all other possible IR sources in the 
room, specifically direct sunlight or fluorescent light anywhere in 
the room. This includes the backlight on your LCD TV or monitor.

If things improve, then you most likely need some sort of filter in 
front of your IR receiver module.
