[mythtv-users] Nvidia GF8200 and VDPAU performance limits ?

Hi;

I have build latest 0.22 svn version from last week (20818M) and compiled
with vdpau for ZOTAC GF8200 mini itx board. Nvidia driver 180.29. Build on
FC10.

To get Advanced,2X interlacing working I had to increase GPU clock and
Shadow clock from 500/1500 MHz to 650/1700 MHz. I allocated max memory to
the GPU - 512 MB.

When I start live TV I get some tearing but it stabilizes after initial
5-10 seconds. However, I'm little but underwhelmed with picture quality,
especially with the fact that video is not 100% smooth, there is a little
stop and go especially in action scenes or sports.

Sample playback log when this is happening

'video_output' mean = '33324.78', std. dev. = '137.75', fps = '30.01'
2009-02-21 13:39:58.661 NVP(0): 36000 interlaced frames seen.
'video_output' mean = '33324.31', std. dev. = '119.49', fps = '30.01'
'video_output' mean = '33324.74', std. dev. = '94.40', fps = '30.01'
'video_output' mean = '33326.26', std. dev. = '83.29', fps = '30.01'
'video_output' mean = '33325.58', std. dev. = '84.15', fps = '30.01'
2009-02-21 13:40:11.993 NVP(0): 36400 interlaced frames seen.
'video_output' mean = '33324.56', std. dev. = '73.67', fps = '30.01'
'video_output' mean = '33326.99', std. dev. = '57.07', fps = '30.01'
'video_output' mean = '33327.14', std. dev. = '88.33', fps = '30.01'

CPU is below 10%.

I have a bunch of questions to the VDPAU users
- is the imperfect video motion common in the other cards ?
- could it be that I hit the performance limit of this chipset ?
- can I count on future improvements to the Nvidia driver to improve the
playback
- what about myth itself, interlacing ?

Basically I'm trying to understand if this motherboard has a future with
0.22 when is released.

Thanks;

George
