Mythfrontend in general does not run at an elevated priority... I believe
it's only the playback thread.

Did you check your logs?  If you're logging what comes out of the frontend,
there is a message when you start to watch a recording.  In my case the
frontend I can grab log data says, something like:
2009-02-03 09:18:12.528 TV: Changing from None to WatchingPreRecorded
2009-02-03 09:18:12.564 Realtime priority would require SUID as root.

That frontend is not setup to use realtime priority.

I can't get to my other logs now, but I believe that second line would say
something like 'Using realtime priority threads'.
