My guess is the WMVs are using the Windows Media Pro Audio Codec
(think ffmpeg identifies it as "dmapro" or something like that).
There was a Google Summer of Code project for handling it last year,
and I was really hoping it would get merged into ffmpeg itself in time
for the next Myth ffmpeg sync, but it's looking like it might not make
it in time. :( Bummer, too, it's one of the primary (only?) reasons
people need to install the w32codecs package for mplayer. MP4 can be
a little tricky too, I can see where you might need to use an external
player with it. There's all sorts of
not-technically-MP4-container-compliant ways of doing it (notably
those files made by handbrake) that sometimes seem to give Myth fits.
I honestly haven't tried any it a while, I ought to take another look.

I'm glad to hear it's gotten better for you over time.

Robert
