As Brian Wood observed, a Commodore 64 with VDPAU could probably play
HD-PVR recordings!
I'll once again point people to my thread of exactly a year ago
(<URL:http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/315909#315909>).
It seems like a bad dream now, but back then there was a real danger
that the HD-PVR--as welcome as it was, and is--would result in MythTV
recordings that (almost) *no one* could play satisfactorily. As late
as August, Robert McNamara was unable to guarantee that a Core 2 Duo
3GHz would be sufficient for 100% perfect playback
(<URL:http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/345697#345697>

VDPAU could not have arrived any later than it did, really.
