If you have a physically separate backend and a frontend connected by
your local LAN, and after installing your frontend and inputting in the
backend's mysql password (found at /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt on the backend
machine), the frontend appears to start but then quits abruptly,
examine /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log on the frontend machine.
There you might find a note concerning time zone.

Apparently Mythtv considers Boise, ID, USA and Denver, CO, USA to be
in different time zones. If you tell the backend to use "Denver" and
the frontend to use "Boise", the frontend won't start. Set both to
Boise or both to Denver and all seems well. At least that was my
experience. Technically, both are in the Mountain Time Zone.

In the default xfce window manager, you set the time zone through
Applications->System->Time and Date.

HTH, Larry
