Do you mean coax from the cable box to the tuner card? If so, then that's 
certainly possible. You'd need to tune the tuner card to whatever channel the 
cable box outputs. You'll probably get a clearer signal if you use S-video, 
or at least composite; coax is generally the worst way to get a signal from a 
cable box into MythTV, from a picture quality perspective.

As to how it's listed in MythTV, in mythtv-setup you'll just specify the input 
on your tuner card. The cable box's FireWire connection might also appear as 
an option if it's hooked up at that moment, but if you define that 
connection, MythTV will think it's a separate tuner, which will cause all 
sorts of problems. If you want to use the FireWire port ONLY for tuning, and 
record the signal via your tuner card, you should ignore the FireWire option 
in mythtv-setup. Just specify the tuner script, tweaked as necessary for your 
system.
