Yes, as you've realised, there are things to look for - unfortunately 
they are the sort of things that aren't mentioned in the specs. I hit 
lucky with a Samsung LE26B350 - it does power off (on the VGA, 
haven't tried DVI yet), but I don't think it does on an AV input. It 
also does full pixel mode out of the box on the DVI input. Neither of 
these are in the specs, and I don't think they are in the manual 
either.

I think the only way to find out is to take a laptop round a TV store 
and try the different displays on offer - or get a recommendation 
from someone else who's already been through the process.
