I've been forced to disable 4:3 override on my STB so everything
records at 1080i. My cable company likes to insert local commercials
in 480i on HD channels. While the HD-PVR handles resolution changes
recording, things aren't always handled as gracefully on playback.

John are you still running the same hardware? If so, give the
185.18.36 nvidia drivers and VDPAU a try. I can timestretch 1080i
to 1.65x easily with temporal deinterlacing. At around 1.80x is where
the glitches start occurring.
