I still can't get video streaming from the backend to a seperate
frontend.  I can't for the life of me see what the problem is here.

MYSQL password is correct and IP addresses are setup correctly on the
back end for server location.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do to troubleshoot this?

I've been looking into a similar issue on recent versions of mythbuntu.

I've discovered the FE needs to be setup as a FE AND BE, even thought it is being used solely as a Front-end. (!)  There seem to be 
other issues also and I have not fully resolved these.

What distribution are you using and what are the version number(s) of mythtv that you are using?  I am using JYA's testing as the FE 
and JYA's release as the (working) FE/BE on mythbuntu.  (I note JYA uses Ubuntu, there may be reasons that is the better OS however 
I am not sure.)
