Actually, it does in my experience. I ran into exactly the same
problem a month or two ago and a simple symlink fixed it for me.
Apparently if udevadm is called with the name "udevinfo" it will
behave as before - at least currently. It does spit some error
messages to stderr, but that wouldn't affect a pipeline only reading
from stdin.
