The pass through options on these cards only pass through the data
from the SPDIF port, which, as I understand it, is less capable than
native HDMI.  Since the poster mentioned wanting to do "HD audio", I
presume that SPDIF isn't good enough.

SPDIF is certainly good enough for my ears/budget.
