I would give the HD channel a higher priority (or, as Mike Dean
recently suggested, give the SD channels lower priorities).
SchedulesDirect is quite good about providing accurate, consistent,
and unique program IDs. A Record All or Record Once rule for a program
that airs on the HD and one or both SD channels will, thus, be
recorded off the HD channel unless there's no way to do so and also
execute another recording rule of the same or higher priority.
While all SchedulesDirect programs have program IDs, the IDs aren't
always useful. News, talk, and children's programs' IDs are the most
likely to be generic ones that uniquely identify the program but not
individual episodes. This occasionally happens with other types of
programs, too (_The Simpsons_ reruns' descriptions become generic for
a week or two every so often, for example), but is much rarer. In such
cases, we see what you see in terms of multiple "generic" episodes
being recorded unless the rule is set to not do so; this is safer
behavior, of course, as it's better that too much is recorded than too
little.
