Once you've got the captions separated, you can use very simple tools
to search against them although it sounds like you are interested in
something more along the lines of a full text search solution.

But something like:

jedi at nomad:/home/media/DVD/StarTrek-TNG$ grep [Dd]amn *srt | sed 's/.srt:.*//g' | sort -u
