I'd read the manufacturer documentation that comes with the cards
firmware as well - I've seen some of the Dell branded RAID cards are
not compatible even with different versions of the same card's
firmware - the recommendation was to backup the RAID before the
upgrade and then restore after the upgrade, quite a pain so we ended
up never upgrading the firmware even though the new one promised much
better performance.
