Hi all,

This happened again this afternoon.
Any suggestions?

Would it make a difference that I was running the frontend under my own
username (mark) and not the mythtv user?

Thanks,

MG

Subject: [mythtv-users] FrontEnd - Menu's Disappearing

Hi,

I am experiencing an issue where the frontend menu items disappear after
Live TV – much like:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/388300

I get it exactly as he describes it as – “Basically after watching LiveTV or
a Recording I'll hit the Back button and all the menus have disappeared. If
I press back again I'll get the "Do you really want to exit" prompt. If I
choose No it will go back to the main menu but with no items in it. I can
still navigate & the frontend works as it should do but with no menus at
all. If I exit the frontend & start it again all is well.”

- It only occurs after watching Live TV, and intermittently – usually
happens about once a week with my light Live TV usage.
- I am using an NVidia 6200 for video, but recently rebuilt and was
previously using an ATI and still experienced the issue – so I don’t think
it's video drivers.
- I’m using the Retro theme, but was previously using Lulius theme, so I
don’t think it’s that either.
- I’m using QT as the themepainter, and even added it as a startup option as
recommended in the above thread (and get “Using the Qt painter” in the log),
but this didn’t solve the issue. It also can’t be an OpenGL issue.
- I’m not using XvMC, so it can’t be that.
- My connection to the TV is currently just a 15pin standard monitor
connection, so it can’t be some sort of HDMI issue.
- The rebuild would also hopefully rule out some random corruption
somewhere.

Any ideas? The logs don’t seem to show anything for around that time,
although the frontend log admittedly wasn’t set to verbose. I may try that,
and hope something happens before the file becomes huge!
I’ve done loads of googling – and people seem to be experiencing the issue,
but I haven’t yet found a solution.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, combined back/frontend Myth
0.21.0+fixes19961-0ubuntu8, on a 5050e, NVidia 6200, 1TB HDD, 4gb RAM.

All suggestions welcome,

Thanks,

MG
