If LVM was used the original question probably would not need to be  
asked :-)

I've swapped many MythTV disks around using pvmove, usually 500GB disk  
to 1TB ones, especially with HDTV, didn't have to stop MythTV  
recording while it was happening either. It takes a long while as  
blocks are copied even if they are not used but as the system is still  
running the whole time that doesn't really matter.
