The problem is that the content you could potentially get from the
card is still encrypted and the DMCA specifically forbids you from
reverse engineering something by breaking encryption.

Still an interesting development, although my guess is by the time
someone comes up with a hacked cablecard solution for linux, cablecard
will be all but dead. Unfortunately.
