While you're working on the code may I offer these two enhancements for
your consideration?

Add a command line arg to specify a new vendor id so in the future a
user can add it to their setup and not have to recompile.

Add a --promiscuous option to treat every device found as a STB. I would
imagine 99.9% of backends using firewire only have STBs connected. Not
sure if this is possible, I haven't used firewire for a year and may be
forgetting how it works.
