[mythtv-users] Why has no one implemented subtext commercial filtering?

In answer to the "Yes. Why is that?" and as a wide stab in the dark I would
suggest it's due to the fact that the principle stations in the UK do not
broadcast with watermark logos, so logo detection will fail, commercials are
rarely preceded by blank frames and run straight into a bumper quite often
without any transition. In fact it is quite hard to detect manually when the
commercials start so I fail to see how a computer algorithm would work any
better. The cases where it does work is on satellite stations that
broadcasts with a logo, though most are very transparent except for the
Murdoch stations, and in fact they make it quite easy to manually edit as I
set the skip time to a minute, lean on the right arrow and wait for the logo
to disappear.

I've no knowledge of other broadcast systems other than in Spain where there
appears to be 2 minutes of program followed by 10 minutes (or more!) of
"anuncios", incredibly painful to someone like myself that is used the
British method of commercial television and possibly another reason why
commercial detection and obliteration is more necessary, 3 minutes of
commercials every 15 minutes of content (roughly - before someone seizes on
to that point) is hardly a problem for me.

I've typed that lot but I'm not sure that I've added anything valuable to
the debate at all, oh well...
