You're not the only one, so as it has been a while...

... I just went through the motions on a spare box I have and deleted
and reconfigured the DVB-S and DVB-T cards, leaving the video sources
well alone. It took a couple of minutes to check everthing and then
restart the backend, and then the frontend. LiveTV started up straight
away. This is a 0.21-fixes installation.

The only tasks one should need to carry out on the Input Connections pages are:

i) choose which video source to bind to the card input
ii) choose a name for the input
iii) choose a starting channel *

Deleting and reconfiguring capture cards in mythtv-setup will not
affect how they are detected and configured by the kernel at startup.
Neither will it affect already configured channels in MythTV - this is
part of the Video Sources configuration.

Adding a new capture card and connecting it to an already defined
source, or deleting and reconfiguring all current capture cards and
reattaching them to predefined video sources, are straightforward
processes and should not require completely starting over.

Nick

* having an invalid starting channel can break LiveTV
