[mythtv-users] HDTV mpeg2 ts stream issue with external AC3 decoding

I am have been recording HDTV streams from my cable STB via firewire for
months now and happily playing them back on my HD frontend. I recently
added an A/V receiver to my setup. Audio (2ch and 5.1) output through
spdif is working great for DVDs and MKV files with AC3 audio. When I
play a HDTV recording with AC3 audio from myth with the internal player (audio decoded
by the external receiver) I get all kinds of stuttering of the video and
audio.

I think this is due to the ts stream captured since ts streams are
notorious for containing errors. Mplayer also stutters on playback of
the same file when using "-ao alsa:device=spdif hwac3". My question is
how do I clean it up within myth to be able to play it back smoothly
with AC3 audio? What would be the best way (through myth or a script as
a user job) to fix this issue and keep the AC3 audio?
