Of course, you could also run with tons of *physical* RAM and point 
MySQL at /dev/shm. That is a pretty expensive solution, however, and 
prone to data recovery problems no matter how often you back up or 
infrequently you reboot. Maybe an SSD would be more appropriate, if 
you can afford it.
