Or they "lexicon" the stuff. ("Lexicon" was one of the devices that did
this). This involved dropping frames so that what was 10 minutes of
content is now 8 or 9 minutes. In the old days you needed a device that
connected to the servos in the VTR, and digitally processed the audio to
avoid Mickey Mouse voices. I suppose it can all be done digitally now,
more or less like Myth's time stretch/compress. I recall replacing the
CPU in a Lexicon, a Z-80!

But whether they remove large chunks of content, or just a few frames at
a time, it still sucks.

Most Woody Allen films are immune to this sort of thing, you can't edit
even a single frame of one of his movies without his written permission,
which you are very unlikely to get.
