I haven't noticed much difference between 64 and 32 bits for mythtv per say.
However, I have some H264 1080p material that push the CPU very hard ,
I have much less stuttering when using 64 bits than 32 bits ..

I've been running 64 bits on my backend/frontend for quite a while,
never found a video I couldn't play on the 64 bits machine...

Now I've set up a frontend and after a lot of trial, I'm now using a
64 bits mythbuntu
