Yes, you're right...by default the CPU is underclocked to 630Mhz and
the default BIOS has no options to fix this.  Asus made the executive
decision that all of us would rather battery life over speed (true
most of the time).

However, there are alternative BIOS options that would allow you to
fix this, and there are software solutions to change the fsb
multiplier at runtime.

Currently, on my eeepc, I'm running Mandriva 2009.0 with powereeesave.
 powereeesave allows you to set up to 4 presets for fsb multiplier,
and defaults to the first.  I have mine set to default to 900Mhz, but
I can easily drop it to 630 when I need more battery.

To solve the battery life issue for running the processor faster, you
can get an external DVD player batterypack that is compatible for
about $40.  Check the eeepc forums at http://forum.eeeuser.com for
