As previously mentioned, I tried connecting the coax braid to the
house ground using a ground plug in the outlet wired to the coax braid
(although I did not state this with the correct terminology as I just
did now).  This decreased the volume of the hum, but it was still
present.  I simply could not eliminate the hum completely until I went
all digital (although I did not try isolation transformers of those
power strips taht also have coax in and out -- one of those may work,
but I simply decided to upgrade to all digital for video and audio).

So, it is worth trying as it will just take a few minutes to do, but
don't necessarily expect different results from what you have already
seen.
