As an end-user? No.
For watching Live TV with fast channel surfing you probably want to
use a different application (perhaps kaffeine) that does not buffer
the stream. Your Live TV watching experience will be better, but you
lose the PVR benefits that MythTV provides.
Watching Live TV is one of many features, but not the main driver for
MythTV development, and whilst many users do watch Live TV (myself
included occasionally), many do not to take advantage of MythTV's
commercial flagging, timeshifting, and jump/skip functionality.
