It would appear I didn't explain well enough what I'm trying to do and
what's stopping me from doing it. Let me try again. The series of
interest has been around for several years and there are a large
number of episodes that aired before I built my MythTV system. I have
a recording rule that will record all the new episodes. It excludes
reruns and shows that have the same title/subtitle as ones previously
recorded. Now, I could change the rule to drop the re-run exclusion.
If I do that, it will record all shows that have never been recorded
before on my MythTV system. However, they'll all get put in the same
recording group. Since I want to put the re-run recordings in a
different recording group, I thought to use a custom recording rule.
Unfortunately, I don't see how I can exclude re-runs that have been
previously recorded on my MythTV system from being re-recorded, and
since there are several stations running re-runs on my cable service,
I will end up with numerous scheduling conflicts that I won't get if I
can reject previously recorded shows automatically. So, the question
is whether there is a way in a custom recording rule to exclude
previously recorded shows as is done in standard rules by checking for
title/subtitle matches to exclude, or the ability to check some flag
for "previously recorded" status.

Hope this is clearer.

Craig.
