OK, imagine the framebuffer contains:

*-*-*-*
-*-*-*-
****---
----***

Field 0 should be

*-*-*-*
****---

and field 1 should be

-*-*-*-
----***

Xv output appears to have both fields being identical (either field 0, or
field 1).
