For ubuntu/mythbuntu 8.04 all I did was download the correct (matching
kernel) file from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/204578.

Mine for mythbuntu 8.04 was wget
http://mcentral.de/empiatech/distris/ubuntu/hardy/empia-2.6.24-16-generi
c-2_i386.deb

I made sure I didn't take a recent kernel update that does not as yet
have a compiled version of the module, as for reasons explained in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/204578 you cannot get it to
compile with the stock kernel src & headers.

Installing it with dpkg -i empia-2.6.24-16-generic-2_i386.deb places
additional modules in an empia directory in your lib/modules tree

reboot your machine with the stick (hdtv pro model 880e) removed (very
important for me).

Once the system is up insert the usb stick and do a dmesg. You should
see it load all of the em28xx modules. My posts on

http://mcentral.de/pipermail/em28xx/2008-May/thread.html show the
results of lsmod and dmesg.

Then start mythtv-setup add it as a dvb card and scan for channels.
They should be found for you by mythtv and you should be good to go (I
was).

If you want to test outside of mythtv (I have used kaffeine and mplayer
successfully) then just do a scan as a follows:

scan
/usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/atsc/us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8
VSB > channels.conf

scan is part of the dvb-utils package.

The output of the above can be used directly with mplayer if you put it
in the ~/.mplayer directory. launching mplayer dvb:// will tune to the
1st channel in your channels.conf file. I believe k and p move you up
down channels.

Kaffeine takes a different format and needs a conversion run over
channels.conf (see http://websvn.kde.org/branches/work/~pfister/). I
could not get the built in scanner in kaffeine to work. I also had
problems getting Kaffeine to read my configuration file at first. The
file os channels.dvb and it sits in
~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/channels.dvb

Now, if only there was something worth watching!

Hope my ramblings help!
