[mythtv-users] Exiting mythfrontend logs me out of X completely

My laptop died so while it's getting fixed I'm bringing up another
machine as a backup to my main box. mythfrontend seems to work fine on
this machine but when I exit the frontend it completely logs me out of
X and returns me to the gdm login window. What might cause this?

The data below is captured in a screen session so that when X crashes
I'm still able to see what was going on. Not very informative to me
but maybe someone else will see something of interest.
