Try this (it works on my gentoo system... I assume it's similar for most
that use the 2.6 kernel cpufreq drivers):
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
For my "AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+" laptop, this yields:
2400000 2000000 800000
So, I can go up to 2.4GHz, but normally run at 800MHz.
