The question in the original post referred to the way TiVo handles
this. The post that you linked to also refers to the way TiVo handles
this. Maybe you've never used a TiVo and aren't familiar with how it
operates (or maybe you are), but what I have been talking about here
is exactly how the TiVo I've owned for many years operates. By
extension, what I have been trying to discuss is indeed what this
original post and the one you linked to are asking about.

Well, it seemed to me it was presented as "heres something totally
different that should solve your needs" when it fact it doesn't solve
the question being asked. However, I'll be glad to give the benefit of
the doubt and assume the person was just misunderstanding. If so,
again, I apologize for assuming that since the tivo has become such a
wildly popular device that most people understand how it works and
realize exactly what is being asked.

I've discovered lots of shows that way. Modern Marvels was one that
never really sounded interesting from a description, but I caught an
episode with an interesting topic one day when I was bored, liked the
format of the show, and realized they had a lot of cool stuff on the
show.

Its one thing to suggest an alternative. Its another thing the way I
often see it proposed (though not necessarily by you). It's often
presented with the condescending attitude of "why would you even WANT
to do that. I certainly dont", without really giving respect to the
fact that different people like to do things different ways, and that
theres nothing wrong with those differences.

I misunderstood what you were trying to say. Question withdrawn.

Again, I'll repeat what I have said many times. I have ABSOLUTELY NO
PROBLEM with anyone NOT writing the patch, My only issue has been how
I've seen it addressed in discussion many times. And as was already
pointed out, I didn't really mean to say specifically that it was any
of the core developers saying such. That was my mistake.
