I'll quote the thread I linked to above:

Which backend originally recorded these files and can the master (or
whoever
is running mythtranscode) access the files?

The easiest way I've found to make sure the files are locally
accessible is by NFS mounting the recording directories to the same
path on all my backends (master backend mounted on each slave, each
slave mounted on each other slave plus the master backend). It's
overkill, but I've never run into this sort of problem. ;)
