Lately, I've been able to record everything to which I'm subscribed.  That 
doesn't include any pay-TV channels (since I don't subscribe to them), but if I 
can view it on the box's various analog outputs, I can record it from the 
FireWire jack.

(This seems very much to be a case where YMMV; not too long ago, the only HD 
channels that worked for me were the local channels.)
