[mythtv-users] Problems since upgrade to 0.21with high CPU load on internal player

Since I updated my SuSE 10.3 backend and server to 0.21 with the RPMs on
Packman, I am experiencing higher than usual CPU usage with the Internal
player.

Stupidly, when I tested the 0.21 upgrade, I only did so on selected
channels, ITV2 and ITV3 being the two; these both play fine with the
Internal player.

What I've discovered is that while these channels play fine, other
channels such as BBC1 drop audio and stutter video, however if I then
play the files created by the recording process, they play fine with
mplayer (roughly 45% CPU). I also found that playing previously recorded
and archived MPEG-2 file suffered the same problem when using the
Internal player, but worked fine in Mplayer.

After playing with various options, it seems to be related to the audio
in the relevant streams.

Here's a brief run-down of what I've found :

BBC1: Very Choppy, mythfrontend=97% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/16.67% (ratio: 32000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

ITV1 (STV): Quite Choppy, mythfrontend=93% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 192.0 kbit/12.50% (ratio: 24000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

ITV2: Plays fine, mythfrontend=60-83% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 64.0 kbit/4.17% (ratio: 8000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

BBC3: Very Choppy, mythfrontend=97% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/16.67% (ratio: 32000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

SKY3: Quite Choppy, mythfrontend=93% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 192.0 kbit/12.50% (ratio: 24000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

CH4+1: Plays fine, mythfrontend=~70% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 192.0 kbit/12.50% (ratio: 24000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

Virgin1:Quite Choppy, mythfrontend=93% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 192.0 kbit/12.50% (ratio: 24000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

Film4:Plays mostly fine, mythfrontend=90% CPU

    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 160.0 kbit/10.42% (ratio: 20000->192000)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

Anyone else seen similar problems?

I'm now attempting to compile 0.20.2, as the RPMs do note seem to be
available on Packman any more.

Gordon
