My web server is running as apache, so I needed to fix this by making
the symlink owned by apache (which it is by default), and the apache
user needed to have read access to thumbnails (which it does not have
in the default location /home/mythtv/.mythtv/MythVideo).
I stuck my thumbnails elsewhere on my file system (at the same level
as my videos directory), put it in the apache group owned by mythtv
and symlinked /home/mythtv/.mythtv/MythVideo to it. Now both my
frontend and mythweb are happy.
