[mythtv-users] MCE2 remote problem

I have a combined FE/BE based on Ubuntu 7.10 that I installed the MythTV
packages on after the Ubuntu was setup. I have a MCE 2 remote that was
working just fine until I did an auto upgrade recently. I recall that
new kernel packages were installed at that time which may have something
to do with the problem.

Looking at the logs reveals that the driver is being loaded:

[ 44.832000] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
[ 44.848000]
[ 44.848000] lirc_mceusb2: Philips eHome USB IR Transciever and
Microsoft MCE 2005 Remote Control driver for LIRC $Revision: 1.33 $
[ 44.848000] lirc_mceusb2: Daniel Melander <lirc at rajidae.se>, Martin
Blatter <martin_a_blatter at yahoo.com>
[ 44.848000] usbcore: registered new interface driver lirc_mceusb2

But lircd exits when I try to use the remote or run irw:

Mar 10 11:57:02 curly lircd-0.8.2[23422]: lircd(userspace) ready
Mar 10 11:57:09 curly lircd-0.8.2[23422]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Mar 10 11:57:09 curly lircd-0.8.2[23422]: could not get file information
for /dev/lirc
Mar 10 11:57:09 curly lircd-0.8.2[23422]: default_init(): No such file
or directory
Mar 10 11:57:09 curly lircd-0.8.2[23422]: caught signal

Looking at the /dev entries there appears to be no lirc device node.

Has anyone else encountered this or a similar problem? Does anyone have
any suggestions on how to debug this further?

Thanks

John
