I can't figure out which version's you're using from your description, 
so--just in case--I'll say:

 - Release version 0.21 does /not/ play DVD's.
 - 0.21-fixes at r16483 and beyond will play DVD's.
 - trunk has not yet had the patch from [16483] merged, so you would 
have to apply it yourself (

until it is.  You'll know when it is merged because--as a trunk 
user--you read and keep up with all the posts to the -dev and -commits 
lists.

If this is, in fact, the problem you're experiencing, I'm guessing 
you're running a 0.21-fixes release that you've built yourself since you 
didn't notice #4897 and [16483].  However, I will admit that it's 
possible you may be running trunk and didn't realize that the fix had 
not yet been merged back to trunk.
