Because people buy them for that price - and tend to keep them for a  
long time.

You're right - $600 for that is crazy since there's a couple on ebay  
with a buy it now price of under $500. I imagine the auction prices  
would be lower.
You can't get a mac mini with LCD display for the same price. Also,  
you get the convenience of great form factor that will fit on a  
bookshelf if you wanted. Plus, it looks really pretty.
