Never mind! I just got it working. I did 'ls -l /dev/ds*' and saw that
I had 2 devices: /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp2. I took a guess that /dev/dsp
was the main sound device, and that /dev/dsp2 was the one on the pcHD550
card, so I set it as my audio device in the capture card setup and
success. That was the final piece of the puzzle! Now I can record all
of the channels that I want. Hopefully it's bye-bye to my Comcast DVR
($13.95/month) VERY soon!
Thanks alot for the help. Just you asking that question about /dev/dsp1
got me thinking about the problem in a new way.
