If the system won't touch the disk after you've booted it, whay are you not 
running diskless and booting off the network? That means less noise and less 
power usage (front end) and usage of resources you already have to provide the 
boot info (the back end).

Although it can be a bit of a fiddle, depending on distro and circumstances, 
remote booting is not that difficult. There is plenty of Myth-related info on 
how to do it on the wiki/web.
