You won't have any problems with the adapter. There are no drivers - it's
just a plug and socket really. I've got a 32MB CF card as my boot partition
and I haven't had any problems in a year or so of use (not that I reboot
much).

Couldn't you buy several CF cards for that? If you have to replace the CF
card every two years (which won't happen) you'd still be ahead.

And it's quieter, uses less power, and generates less heat. The only thing
that would be better (IMHO) would be to network boot and have no local
storage at all.
