This should be option 4, and what got me using Myth: it's the cheapest solution 
to having a PVR, if you already have a bucket of parts around as most of us seem to.

I developed using Microsoft tools for 20-ish years (yes, really), and eventually 
got turned off them when they became a marketing organisation instead of a 
technical one. The products they peddled got sufficiently poor and 
unneccessarily complicated that in the end I just said no. These days I wouldn't 
touch *anything* using Microsoft software (their mice are OK though, can't say 
as to the MCE remote, etc). All this happened long before I ever heard of Myth, 
and before I realised we needed such a system.
