I would like to add that I have two ASUS SATA DVD-RW drives (Model
DRW-1814BLT and DRW-2014L1T) running under Linux and have had nothing
but good experiences with them. I do not burn that many disks (but
probably number in the low hundreds since purchase), but they work
reliably and I have yet to encounter a problem from them. A colleague
here has one as well (a DRW-1814BLT) that has burned several thousand
discs since it was purchased.

Anecdotal evidence, but I think that the SATA drives are faster than the
PATA drives. Linux does not have any trouble with them. Before I got the
new burner I actually used an IDE-to-SATA converter to run my IDE burner
over the SATA bus.

Thanks,
James
