In my case I'm not making the recordings.  I'm just trying to gauge if
my FE can cope with the output of one of these devices.  I got the clip
here:

It's a 1080i clip and I'm outputting to a 1080i device.  With my TV +
driver I have to deinterlace the output.  This may be the biggest
problem I have.  

The above link also has 720p clips.  I'll try those too.  However, if I
can't playback 1080i material to my 1080i television I have to consider
my tests to be failures and I'll have to look for some other option...
such as coreavc.
