this is a tad more complicated.

Regarding Linux support, manufacturers usually do not want to spend much
time, outside of personnaly willing employees, on developing support for
a "fringe" OS.

As for crypto, subscription, etc... This is another problem yet. content
providers/makers tend to select protection solutions. They normally do
not want to support operating systems where everything needs to be open,
and may make pirating their system easy.
