Because if you lose one disk in a RAID array you *don't* lose any data;
you may see reduced performance, until you replace the failed drive, but
for most people that is going to be much less annoying.  Of course, if
you regularly backup/archive your recordings onto some other storage
then you may not mind losing the copy on disk.
