I'm using S/PDIF from my motherboard to my receiver. Using passive,
everything sounds ok with files from my HDHR and pcHDTV-5500 as well
as from my PVR-150/350 cards (aside from poor stereo separation on the
analog cards which is to be expected). Using active, the HDHR and
pcDTV-5500 recordings sound the same (passing through the good audio,
I'm assuming), but I have to crank my receiver almost all the way up
to hear anything recorded from my analog cards. I didn't really play
with the settings all that much to try to fix anything. I just
switched it back to passive and left it there.
